The ChessBinder service — its source code, design, layout, graphics, logos, icons, text, curated puzzle collections, lessons, courses, and the selection, coordination, and arrangement of all of it — is the copyrighted work of ChessBinder, protected under the Copyright Act, 1957 (India) and, through the Berne Convention, under the copyright laws of other countries. Copyright arises automatically on creation; registration is not required for these rights to exist or to be enforced.
2. Trademarks
“ChessBinder”, the ChessBinder logo and wordmark, and the distinctive look and feel of this site are trademarks of ChessBinder, asserted through use in commerce. The symbol indicates a claimed trademark; where a mark is registered we will use instead.
You may not, without our prior written permission:
- use the ChessBinder name, logo, or wordmark in your own product, service, app, domain name, social account, or company name;
- use any mark, name, or design confusingly similar to ours;
- use our marks in a way that suggests we endorse, sponsor, or are affiliated with you; or
- alter, recolour, or redraw our logo.
Fair, descriptive reference to ChessBinder — a news article, a review, a link, or a coach telling students which site to use — is fine and needs no permission. Other trademarks appearing on the site belong to their respective owners.
3. What you may do with our content
You may view, and print or download for your own personal, non-commercial chess study or teaching, the material we publish on ChessBinder, provided you keep all copyright and trademark notices intact. You may not republish it, sell it, incorporate it into another product or course you distribute, mirror or frame it, bulk-download or scrape it, or use it as training data for a machine-learning or AI model, without our prior written permission.
Coaches and academies using ChessBinder may of course use our lessons and studies to teach their own learners on the platform — that is what the service is for. Redistributing that material outside ChessBinder is not permitted.
4. Content created by users
Studies, annotations, notes, lessons, and courses created by users remain owned by the users who created them, under the licence set out in section 6 of the Terms of Service. If you believe another user has posted something that infringes your rights, tell us and we will look into it.
5. Chess games and positions
The bare moves of a chess game are facts and are not protected by copyright; anyone may record and republish them. Original material about a game is protected: written annotations, commentary, teaching text, the selection and curation of a puzzle set, and layout and design. We respect that distinction in both directions — we do not claim ownership of the moves of anyone’s game, and we do not reproduce other people’s annotations or lesson material without permission.
